About

John Anderson Westgard

I was raised on the rocky hills of North Carolina and found joy in stones at a very young age.  The rock-hound nature has only grown over the years, as has the quality of gems I have come across.

Through my college years studying as a chemist, my observations of perfect crystal structures were echoed in the thorough lectures of inorganic chemistry.  This fascination of symmetry, structure, and energy interaction in the joining of elements encouraged the passion of studying what sets mineral chemistry apart.

Now in Pittsburgh, and practicing lapidary arts, I am delving into the light-crystal interactions uncovered when a stone is cut to its perfect brilliance.  I seek to optimize the inherent properties characteristic of each gem and in doing so elevate the simple shaping of rocks to become visual works of art.
